Chamba-Shimla Volvo Bus Service Flagged Off, Promises Comfortable Travel to the Capital
MLA Neeraj Nayyar inaugurating the Volvo bus service
Chamba, August 2:
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has launched a BS-6 ultra-luxury Volvo bus service between Chamba and Shimla, providing residents and tourists with a much-needed comfortable travel option to the state capital. The service was formally inaugurated by Chamba MLA Neeraj Nayyar and HRTC Vice-Chairman Ajay Verma.
The Volvo bus service commenced on August 2, with the bus departing daily from Chamba at 7:30 AM and from Shimla at 6:00 AM. The route will pass through Pathankot, Jasur, Talwara, Una, Chandigarh, and Solan, offering a direct and luxurious travel alternative across key towns.
This long-awaited service addresses a long-pending demand of Chamba residents. Speaking at the launch, MLA Neeraj Nayyar noted that Chamba is one of the farthest district headquarters from Shimla and lacked such premium transport facilities. He thanked the state government, especially Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, for their support in making this service a reality.
Nayyar highlighted that this is Chamba’s first BS-6 compliant ultra-luxury Volvo bus, which will benefit not just locals but also visiting tourists. He also mentioned plans to adjust the bus schedule in the future to better align with the Vande Bharat train service to Delhi, enhancing connectivity further.
Each bus under this service costs approximately ₹1.51 crore.
