Mandi, July 31
Amid the ongoing natural calamity in Himachal Pradesh, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh visited disaster-affected areas of Mandi district to assess the relief efforts. Speaking to the media, he said the state government is taking the situation very seriously and has put in place high-level monitoring. He added that continuous review meetings are being held with officials from the SDRF, NDRF, and other concerned departments to ensure prompt assistance to those affected.

Vikramaditya Singh emphasized that the government is committed to helping every affected family, setting aside all political differences. “Providing relief in such a crisis is a massive challenge, and politics has no place in it,” he stated. “I will not engage in politics during this difficult time, nor will I allow anyone else to do so. I want to assure the people that we are standing with them, come what may.”

He also noted that due to global warming, such disasters are becoming increasingly common across the world. In light of this, the state government is shifting its focus to pre-disaster planning. Work is underway to implement modern technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and early warning systems to provide advance alerts and minimize loss of life and property.

Regarding negligence in the construction of national highways, the minister took a firm stance. He pointed out that improper slope-cutting and careless engineering by some companies have led to landslides in various areas. “Himachal needs development—but development that is sustainable,” he said. “Temporary and irresponsible construction practices will no longer be tolerated in the state.”

He also shared that he has raised these concerns with the central government, highlighting the deficiencies in highway construction and demanding strict action against the companies at fault. Singh assured the public that the government is doing everything it can and that disaster management systems in the state will soon be made more efficient and technologically advanced.
