Opposition MPs march towards Vijay Chowk in black attire in a bid to show unity against Centre
In an effort to show unity, opposition parties dressed in black to protest against the Center on the Adani Group issue and marched from the Parliament complex towards Vijay Chowk in the national capital on Monday.
Opposition MPs raised slogans against the government at the Gandhi statue in the campus and demanded formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Adani issue.
Congress President Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi also joined the protest.
During the march, Kharge was seen holding the hands of other MPs. A banner of Satyamev Jayate was also seen. Other opposition MPs were seen holding placards. The MPs raised slogans against the Center and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for linking Adani.
The march comes after both Houses of Parliament were adjourned within minutes of their commencement.
Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm and Lok Sabha proceedings till 4 pm on Monday.
Opposition MPs were raising slogans over the Adani group issue and Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification.
Earlier today, opposition MPs met in the chamber of Leader of Opposition Rajya Sabha and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament House on Monday to chalk out the strategy for the day.
Opposition parties participating in the meeting include DMK, Samajwadi Party, JD(U), Bharat Rashtra Samithi, CPI(M), RJD, Nationalist Congress Party, CPI, IUML, MDMK, Kerala Congress, TMC, RSP, AAP, J-K Are. NC and Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction).
Trinamool Congress MPs also participated in the meeting, which took place after the suspension of Rahul Gandhi as an MP from the Lok Sabha.
TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been critical of the BJP, supported Rahul Gandhi.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge welcomed TMC’s move to attend the meeting, saying whoever comes forward to “protect democracy” is welcome.

Meanwhile, opposition MPs were seen dressed in black to protest against the Center over the Adani issue and Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification.
Congress MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, wore black in August last year to protest against the Center over price hike, GST hike on essential commodities and unemployment. He had marched towards Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of his agitation against the issues.
Congress MP Manish Tiwari said, “The way Rahul Gandhi’s membership has been taken away is completely undemocratic. He has the right to appeal in the court. The court also gave him 30 days to appeal.
