Mandi, July 26:
The 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed at the Shaheed Smarak located in the Indira Market complex of Mandi town. The event saw participation from ex-servicemen, war widows (Veer Naris), family members of martyrs, local leaders, and administrative officials, who came together to pay heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes and salute the courage of the Indian Army.
It’s worth noting that twelve brave soldiers from Mandi district laid down their lives during the Kargil conflict, and their supreme sacrifice is remembered with pride and reverence by the people of Mandi to this day.
After offering floral tributes at the memorial, Lt. Gen. Rakesh Kapoor remarked that Kargil Vijay Diwas stands as a testament to the unmatched bravery, courage, and sacrifice of the Indian armed forces. He emphasized that the Indian Army valiantly pushed back Pakistani infiltrators, securing a historic victory that continues to inspire the nation. “The sacrifices made by our soldiers in this war can never be forgotten,” he said.
The ceremony also included a felicitation of ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, and families of the martyrs. Prominent attendees included Mandi Sadar MLA Anil Sharma, Balh MLA Inder Singh Gandhi, Mayor Virender Bhatt, ADC Mandi Gursimar Singh, and district BJP president Nihal Chand, among others. The ADC also led a pledge ceremony, where all attendees reaffirmed their commitment to the protection and service of the nation.
