Mandi, July 26: Cabinet Minister Jagat Singh Negi has responded to the recent incident in Thunag, Seraj, where his convoy was blocked by protestors. Speaking informally with the media at the Basah Rest House in Gohar on his way back, Negi claimed the entire episode was a politically motivated act orchestrated by the BJP, and not the fault of local villagers.
“This was a planned move by the BJP. The villagers are not to blame,” said Negi. “Some shopkeepers in Thunag are opposing the relocation of the Government College of Horticulture and Forestry, but students and their families have raised serious safety concerns. The area has seen disasters before, and the previous government made no arrangements for hostels. Students are facing difficulties due to the lack of proper accommodation.”
Negi confirmed that the government has decided to shift the college to Gudhari in Gohar subdivision, and the relocation will proceed soon as per official orders.
He further stated that during his visit to Seraj, there were no protests anywhere except in Thunag. “I visited affected areas, met with locals, listened to their problems, and ensured solutions were provided,” he said.
Regarding the Thunag incident, Negi said, “Some people tried to pressure me into making a statement to suit their demands. But such decisions are made at the government level—I cannot act on personal discretion. Blocking my route and shouting slogans to force a decision was completely inappropriate.”
