Day Turns to Dusk in Kandaghat as Thick Fog Causes Zero Visibility; Drivers Forced to Use Headlights
Solan, July 20:
A rare weather event unfolded in the Kandaghat area of Solan district on Saturday afternoon, resembling a typical winter morning rather than a monsoon day. Dense fog enveloped the region, turning broad daylight into near darkness and drastically reducing visibility along National Highway-5 (Chandigarh–Shimla highway).
Light drizzles had been falling since morning, but around 1 PM, visibility dropped to nearly zero near “Meghdoot,” a Himachal Pradesh Tourism hotel located about 8 km from Kandaghat toward Shimla. The sudden onset of thick fog caught commuters off guard and caused major difficulties for motorists. Even in the middle of the day, drivers were forced to switch on their headlights to navigate safely and avoid accidents.
Local residents noted that while fog during monsoon is not uncommon in hilly areas, the density of the fog on this occasion made the scene appear more like a chilly winter morning. Authorities and traffic police have urged motorists to exercise caution and drive slowly under such conditions to ensure safety.
