Mandi, July 9:
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that disaster-affected families in Himachal Pradesh will be given ₹7 lakh each to help rebuild their homes. The announcement came during his two-day visit to the severely hit Seraj constituency, where he met with affected families and reviewed the damage in Bagsyad, Thunag, Janjehli, and surrounding areas.

The CM assured residents that a formal Cabinet decision and notification on the financial assistance would be issued soon. He also promised compensation for damaged household items, cowsheds, and livestock. Urging affected families to relocate to safer areas, he said, “We must ensure that such tragedies don’t repeat.”

“Forest Land is Under Centre’s Jurisdiction”

Speaking to the media, CM Sukhu addressed the issue of land availability, stating, “Himachal has 68% of its land under forest cover, with 70 lakh people living on the remaining 32%. Allocating forest land for rehabilitation falls under the central government’s domain.” He called on the state’s MPs to push for central clearance to facilitate land allotments for the displaced.

A Jibe at Jairam: “Let’s Not Politicize a Crisis”

While in Saraj, CM Sukhu took a veiled dig at Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, saying, “Some BJP leaders claim nothing is being done in Saraj, but the fact that roads have reopened shows that work is happening on the ground.” He highlighted that over 100 machines were deployed in the area at one point, and 50 remain operational, making the restoration of basic services possible.

He also responded to Jairam’s earlier plea for a helicopter for aerial surveys, clarifying that the army helicopter was arranged by the state government itself. “This is a time to act together—not score political points,” he added.

Message to Kangana Ranaut: Bring Central Aid, Not Just Criticism

The Chief Minister advised Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut to focus on securing central support for the disaster-hit region. “The people of Mandi elected her to represent them. In this time of crisis, we need action—not just statements. She should work with the Centre to bring more relief,” he said.

Donate Responsibly Through DC’s Relief Fund

CM Sukhu also appealed to citizens to route their contributions through the DC Mandi Disaster Relief Fund to ensure transparent and effective distribution. He cautioned against misinformation being spread on social media and urged people to rely on the district administration for delivering aid based on verified needs.

“This disaster demands unity, not division. Every bit of support must reach those who need it most,” he concluded.
