Mandi: Cloudburst Causes Heavy Damage in Kortang Village, No Loss of Life Reported

Mandi, July 6:
A cloudburst around midnight wreaked havoc in Kortang village of Chauhar Valley, under the Padhar subdivision in Mandi district. The incident, which occurred near Silhbudhni Gram Panchayat, caused a sudden deluge in a nearby stream, sweeping away one motorable bridge and three footbridges. Farmlands, standing crops, and orchards along the stream were also destroyed by the gushing water and debris.

Panchayat Pradhan Prem Singh Thakur and BDC member Kamla Thakur confirmed that while there has been no loss of life, the situation remains critical. They expressed concern about the growing threat to the village due to erosion and the aggressive flow of the stream. The Panchayat has submitted a detailed report to the SDM Padhar, highlighting the extent of damage and urging prompt relief and protective measures.

SDM Padhar, Surjit Singh Thakur, said an administrative team has been dispatched to the site to assess the damage. He assured that appropriate action will be taken following the ground report.
