Solan, July 3:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off 24 brand-new state-of-the-art Volvo buses of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) from Kyarighat in Solan today. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing world-class public transport and transforming Himachal into a ‘Green Energy State’.

He stated that over the past two years, the government has extended financial support of ₹1,000 crore annually to HRTC to ensure better, safer, and more comfortable travel for the public. So far, the state has procured 500 diesel buses, 300 electric buses, and around 30 Volvo buses. Additionally, 100 Tempo Travellers will soon be added to the HRTC fleet.

Highlighting the importance of road transport, the Chief Minister noted that due to limited railway and air connectivity in the state, HRTC buses serve as a vital lifeline. He mentioned that HRTC currently receives a monthly grant of ₹60 crore. In line with the government’s green energy push, plans are underway to introduce hydrogen-powered buses, and over ₹110 crore is being invested to install electric vehicle charging stations across the state.

On the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri emphasized that HRTC buses are a daily mode of transport for lakhs of Himachalis. He shared that 250 more buses will soon be inducted, and the government has also extended the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and financial benefits to HRTC employees.

Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil added that the launch of these new Volvo buses will enhance state revenue and offer passengers a world-class travel experience.

The event was attended by several dignitaries and senior officials.
