Shimla, 24 June: Over the past three days, Shimla witnessed a massive influx of tourists as thousands flocked to the city seeking respite from the summer heat during the extended weekend beginning 20 June. According to district police, around 60,000 tourist vehicles entered Shimla during this period, placing heavy pressure on the city’s roads. Despite the surge, traffic remained largely under control, thanks to the Shimla Police’s well-coordinated strategy, round-the-clock vigilance, and proactive deployment.

Anticipating the rush, the police had made elaborate arrangements in advance. A total of 189 traffic personnel were stationed across key roads, busy intersections, and major tourist spots. In addition, 85 extra police personnel were deployed in shifts to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the city. A team of 25 motorcycle-borne traffic officers patrolled the streets, enabling quick response in case of congestion.

To handle breakdowns and accidents, crane teams remained on standby. Their timely intervention in 11 such incidents helped prevent major traffic disruptions. A police spokesperson confirmed that despite the high volume of vehicles, there were no reports of major traffic jams, and the overall traffic situation remained well-managed.

Meanwhile, on 22 June, the Junior Office Assistant (IT) recruitment exam was conducted peacefully across 13 centers in Shimla, with 4,305 candidates appearing. To maintain order, 140 additional police personnel were deployed. Most candidates reached their centers on time with police assistance. However, around 30 candidates who arrived after the cut-off time of 10:30 AM were not allowed to enter, in line with the examination rules.

In response to some reports and images circulating on social media and certain news outlets suggesting traffic chaos, Shimla Police issued a clarification, stating that such portrayals were misleading and did not reflect the ground reality. The majority of tourists and local residents reached their destinations without significant difficulty, and traffic management remained consistently effective.

The Shimla Police has urged media organizations to verify information from official sources before reporting, to ensure that accurate and responsible news reaches the public.
