Mandi, June 17 – A tragic road accident occurred early Monday morning in the Drang area of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. A family from Jogindernagar, returning from Haridwar after immersing the ashes of a deceased relative, met with an accident when their van veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. Four people were injured in the incident.

The accident took place around 3 a.m. near Bhati Nala on the Mandi-Pathankot National Highway, when an Omni van (HP 29B 2732) lost control and fell nearly 30 feet into a gorge. Local residents promptly alerted the 108 emergency service. EMT Mukesh and driver Sohan Singh, who arrived on the scene, quickly transported the injured to the Zonal Hospital in Mandi.

The injured have been identified as Pranshu Pathania (37), son of Hans Raj Pathania of village Kamed; Vivek Sharma, son of the late Shanti Swaroop Sharma; Vijay Sharma, also son of the late Shanti Swaroop Sharma; and Uma Sharma, wife of the late Shanti Swaroop Sharma—all residents of village Cho, Jogindernagar.

Upon receiving the report, a police team from Padhar Police Station led by SHO Saurabh Thakur arrived at the site and initiated an investigation. He confirmed that three of the injured are being treated at Zonal Hospital Mandi, while one person in critical condition has been referred to Nerchowk Medical College.

Initial findings suggest that the accident may have been caused either by the driver dozing off or losing control of the vehicle.
