Sukhu Government Favors Liquor Factory in Kala Amb, Targets Protesters with FIRs: Jairam Thakur
Jairam Thakur, former CM and Leader of Opposition
Mandi, June 8:
Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur has sharply criticized the Himachal Pradesh government for allegedly shielding liquor interests while taking action against those opposing them. In a statement issued from Mandi, Thakur cited the example of a liquor shop being opened within a village in Nalagarh, where local women protested and requested that the outlet be relocated outside the panchayat limits. Instead of addressing their concerns, Thakur said, the government responded harshly, filing FIRs against 30 to 35 women and other residents involved in the protest.
He questioned the rationale behind such action, saying, “What harm would it have done to move the liquor shop elsewhere? But this government seems more interested in punishing those who raise their voice than in solving their grievances.”
Thakur further alleged that the same government is going easy on illegal liquor operations. Referring to the Kala Amb case, he claimed that despite public pressure exposing an illicit liquor factory, no significant action was taken. Authorities reportedly found nearly 3.95 lakh fake branded labels of liquor, thousands of empty bottles, and other materials used for production, yet no FIR was filed. “Even the Chief Minister’s Office intervened to prevent legal proceedings,” Thakur alleged. “The Sukhu government’s double standards are now in the open—it shields liquor mafias and cracks down on women protesting liquor shops.”
He added that instead of focusing on schools, colleges, or healthcare, the Sukhu administration seems preoccupied with opening new liquor vends and closing essential services.
Jairam Thanks PM Modi for Lifting 27.5 Crore People Out of Poverty
Thakur also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he termed a historic achievement in poverty alleviation. Citing World Bank data, he said, “In just 11 years, the Modi government has reduced India’s extreme poverty rate from 27.1% in 2014 to just 5.3% today.” He credited this progress to Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and lauded the government’s inclusive approach, which he said has empowered the poor, backward classes, youth, farmers, and women.
He noted that under Modi’s leadership, India has advanced from being the 11th largest economy to the fourth largest in the world—a transformation driven by visionary policies and strong governance.
Thakur Visits Accident Victims in Nerchowk Hospital
Later, Jairam Thakur visited Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College in Nerchowk to check on the victims of the tragic road accident that occurred in Shala village, Nachan constituency. He met the injured and offered condolences and support to their families. Thakur directed the hospital administration to provide the best possible treatment to all patients.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives, he prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for the bereaved families. He was accompanied by Nachan MLA Vinod Kumar, Mandi BJP District President Nihal Chand, and other party leaders.
