Mandi: Two Drug Peddlers Caught with Chitta During Patrol in Salapar, SIU Scores Success

Mandi, May 8 – Mandi Police continues its crackdown on drug trafficking with two successful arrests during patrol operations in the Salapar area. Acting swiftly, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) apprehended two individuals in separate incidents, recovering a total of 16 grams of chitta (heroin).

According to official sources, the SIU team was on patrol in the Salapar area on Wednesday evening when they noticed a young man walking from the direction of Salapar Colony who appeared nervous upon seeing the police. Upon searching him, the team recovered 9 grams of chitta and a digital weighing scale. The accused has been identified as Surender alias Kheendu, a resident of Khural village, under Salapar Colony, Sundernagar Tehsil. He is a known offender with multiple past cases and has previously served time for similar offences.

In a separate operation the same evening, the SIU intercepted a car near Harabag on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway. During a routine checkpoint, they found 7.1 grams of chitta concealed in the car’s gear compartment. The accused, identified as Pawan Kumar (44), hails from Sachan village, Post Office Thaltukhod, Tehsil Padhar, and was travelling from Bilaspur to Mandi.

Mandi Superintendent of Police, Sakshi Verma, confirmed both arrests and stated that the accused were produced before the court today, where they were remanded to three days of police custody each.

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the district.
