Tragic Road Accident in Jammu & Kashmir’s Ramban: Three Army Personnel Killed
Ramban, May 4: A devastating road accident has been reported from Ramban district in Jammu & Kashmir, where three Indian Army personnel lost their lives after their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when the vehicle, part of an army convoy, veered off the road after the driver reportedly lost control.
Ramban SSP Kulbir Singh confirmed the incident, stating, “This is an extremely unfortunate accident. A vehicle in an army convoy lost control and fell into a gorge nearly 500 meters deep. All three occupants of the vehicle died on the spot.”
Following the accident, police, Army, CRPF, and Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) rushed to the site and launched a rescue and recovery operation. However, the steep terrain and challenging geography of the area have made the operation difficult.
“We are working to recover the bodies, but the terrain is very tough. Despite the difficulties, our teams are continuously on the job,” SSP Singh said. He added that a preliminary investigation suggests a possible technical fault as the cause of the accident. “During our inspection of the site, we found a loose nut-bolt that may have come from the steering mechanism. Initial signs indicate the driver could have lost control due to a steering failure,” he explained.
However, Singh emphasized that the exact cause of the accident will be determined only after a detailed investigation.
The tragic loss has deeply shaken both the Army and the local administration. Efforts are currently underway to retrieve the bodies with full honor, and there is a possibility that a magisterial inquiry will be initiated to further probe the incident.
