Major Fire at Nauni University Canteen; Property Worth ₹10 Lakh Destroyed
Solan, May 1: A massive fire broke out late last night at a canteen located within Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry in Nauni, resulting in property damage estimated at around ₹10 lakh. The incident triggered panic on campus, but a potential disaster was averted thanks to the swift response of the fire department.
According to reports, the fire began around 2 AM when some residents of the campus noticed smoke emerging from the canteen. They promptly alerted the police and fire services. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after and managed to bring the blaze under control after considerable effort. However, by the time the fire was extinguished, the entire contents of the canteen had been reduced to ashes.
The canteen, which was being operated by Uday Thakur, was located adjacent to the university auditorium. Officials stated that had the fire not been contained in time, it could have easily spread to nearby buildings, causing far more extensive damage.
Local police also arrived at the site to assess the situation and have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. While the exact reason is yet to be confirmed, initial indications point to a possible short circuit.
The university administration has taken the incident seriously and announced the formation of a committee to assess the damage. Fortunately, the canteen was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no casualties were reported. The prompt action by the fire brigade and vigilance of local residents prevented a much larger tragedy.
