Shimla, April 30: Reacting strongly to the remarks made by Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday criticized the BJP leader for making irresponsible statements during a time of national grief following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

Speaking in Shimla, CM Sukhu said that the Congress party has always stood firmly against terrorism and reminded that it has lost two Prime Ministers to acts of terror. “The Congress continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with the central government in the fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” he said. “Whatever decision the Centre takes against Pakistan, the Congress will fully support it.”

Targeting Jairam Thakur, Sukhu said, “While the entire nation was mourning the martyrdom of soldiers in Pahalgam, Jairam Thakur was seen dancing the nati in Sirmaur. He is now making baseless statements, seemingly influenced by media headlines. Before pointing fingers at Congress, he should reflect on his own conduct.”

The Chief Minister emphasized that the Congress does not politicize sensitive issues like terrorism and that it remains committed to the national interest. He also urged BJP leaders to show restraint and maturity during times of national sorrow.

In addition, CM Sukhu outlined several state-level administrative developments, noting that the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has posted a profit for the first time in years. He said this was the result of effective governance and efforts to boost tourism across the state.

Taking another swipe at former CM Jairam Thakur, Sukhu alleged that the previous government’s mismanagement had harmed the state’s economy. He added that the current administration is now exploring the possibility of restoring full commutation for retiring employees and is also considering a proposal to raise the retirement age, which will be discussed in the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
