Shimla, April 28:
A fresh controversy has erupted in Himachal Pradesh after the suspension of four teachers by the Education Department. The teachers were suspended on April 26 for protesting against the merger of education directorates at Chaura Maidan in Shimla. Surprisingly, Education Minister Rohit Thakur appeared unaware of the action taken against them.

Speaking to the media, Rohit Thakur said that the decision to suspend the teachers was made at the departmental level, likely without his direct involvement. He emphasized that in a democracy, everyone has the right to protest. Defending the Education Secretary, he suggested that the teachers’ anger might stem from a misunderstanding.

The Minister urged teachers to refrain from personal attacks and aggressive demonstrations, encouraging them instead to resolve issues through dialogue. He also clarified that the decision to revoke the suspensions could be reconsidered depending on how the situation evolves.

Thakur further explained that the integration of the Directorates of Elementary and Higher Education is a move that several other states have already implemented. He said the Himachal government is pursuing the same model to create a more streamlined and effective education system.
