Shimla, April 23 – In a significant step towards enhancing rural sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Himachal Pradesh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Waste Warriors Society. The agreement aims to streamline solid waste management and improve cleanliness in villages across the state.
Alongside Waste Warriors, similar MoUs have also been signed with Ambuja Cements Ltd. (Darlaghat), UltraTech Cements Ltd., and the Healing Himalayas Foundation, with a shared objective of promoting sustainable and environmentally sound waste practices in rural areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh said, “Waste disposal in rural areas has become a growing concern. These partnerships will help implement effective waste management strategies and contribute significantly to making our villages cleaner and healthier.”
The minister also chaired a departmental review meeting, where he assessed the progress made during the previous financial year and laid out priorities for the year ahead. Officials were instructed to give top priority to projects related to rural development in the upcoming fiscal cycle.
Addressing the matter of proposals received for the creation of 750 new panchayats, Singh stated that the department has begun reviewing them based on established rules, requirements, and budgetary feasibility. A final decision will be taken by the government after thorough evaluation.
