Shimla, April 16: Himachal Pradesh has received a prestigious national award for achieving the highest Aadhaar enrolment rate among children in India, along with commendable performance in Aadhaar-based authentication. The recognition was presented during the ‘Aadhaar Samvad’ programme hosted by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in New Delhi.
The award was formally handed over to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today by his Principal Advisor (Innovation, Digital Technology and Governance) Gokul Butail. The honor was received on behalf of the state by Dr. Nipun Jindal, Director of the Digital Technology and Governance Department.
Highlighting the state’s achievement, the Chief Minister noted that Himachal Pradesh has attained 64% Aadhaar coverage among children under five years, the highest in the country. This was made possible through dedicated birth-time enrolment, school-based drives, and special Aadhaar camps.
Gokul Butail credited the success to seamless coordination between the Health Department and Aadhaar operators, ensuring newborn enrolment at all delivery points across the state.
Appreciating the department’s work, CM Sukhu said, “This award showcases Himachal’s leadership in digital transformation and commitment to empowering its citizens, especially the youngest.” He directed the department to continue expanding online public services for better accessibility.
Also present were senior officials including Rakesh Kanwar, Rakhil Kahlon, Rajiv Sharma, and Anil Semwal. Gokul Butail also presented the department’s 2024–25 annual report card, while the CM reaffirmed his focus on digital initiatives like ‘Him Parivar’, which aim to reshape welfare delivery across the state.
