Shimla, April 14:
In a significant push towards green energy in tribal areas, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a 1 MW solar power plant in Dhanwas, located in the remote Pangi Valley of Himachal Pradesh. The project, estimated to cost ₹10.50 crore, is slated for completion before November 2025 and will bring uninterrupted power supply to all 19 panchayats of the valley — even during the snow-bound winter months.
The solar power plant will be equipped with 2,400 solar panels spread over 2.2 hectares and a 500 kW battery storage system to ensure power availability during the night. The Chief Minister emphasized that the project will eliminate load shedding in the region and strengthen local infrastructure.
Big Boost for Himachal’s Green Energy Mission
CM Sukhu reiterated the state’s commitment to achieving the goal of making Himachal Pradesh a Green Energy State by March 31, 2026. He said, “This solar plant is a major milestone in our journey towards renewable energy self-sufficiency in remote and tribal regions.”
In addition to the solar plant, CM Sukhu also made key development announcements for the area:
-
₹25 lakh each for the construction of four Mahila Mandal buildings in Karyas Panchayat
-
₹1 lakh each for essential items for the Mahila Mandals
-
₹1 crore for the construction of Mandir Road in Karyas Panchayat
The ceremony was attended by Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, and other dignitaries including cooperative bank and committee heads, local leaders, and panchayat representatives.
