Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur
Chamba, April 13:
In a sharp political attack during his Chamba visit, former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur accused the ruling Congress government of “false promises and failed governance.” He was addressing an active member conference of three BJP Mandals in Mahla, Bharmour, where he said the Congress government that came to power on “lies” is now “visibly shaken and incapable of governance.”
Jairam Thakur criticized the state government for halting public welfare initiatives and claimed that “people are ready to bring back a government that delivers.” He also praised the dedication of Bharmour MLA Dr. Janak Raj, calling him a “true public servant” who balances his legislative duties with free medical service to villagers.
BJP Claims Growing Strength; Blames Congress for Policy Paralysis
Highlighting the strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Thakur stated, “BJP is the world’s largest democratic party, with over 13 crore members, and Himachal alone has crossed the 15 lakh membership mark.” He thanked party workers for their dedication and said “this hard work will soon end the current era of instability.”
He also targeted the Congress’s alleged policy failures, stating that the current state government lacks “policy, intention, and resources.” Despite receiving central assistance, Thakur accused the state leadership of blaming the Centre and closing nearly 2,000 institutions set up during the BJP regime.
In an address at Parel, 32 local youth officially joined the BJP, expressing trust in the party’s direction. Thakur welcomed them with garlands, calling it “a sign of growing public trust in BJP policies.”
Call for Urgent Repairs to Mangalore Bridge
Later in his tour, the Leader of Opposition visited the damaged Mangalore bridge on the Aut-Luri-Rampur NH-305 and urged officials to develop an alternative route immediately. He asked Banjar MLA Surendra Shourie to personally inspect the location and ensure restoration of traffic at the earliest.
As political temperatures rise in the hill state, Jairam Thakur’s statements mark a renewed offensive by the BJP ahead of upcoming civic engagements.
