Disclosure: Kangana Was Availing Electricity Subsidy, Bill Payments Delayed – Clarifies Electricity Board
Shimla, April 10: Amid ongoing media buzz surrounding the electricity bill of actress and Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut’s Manali residence, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) has issued an official clarification, addressing the facts and dispelling misinformation.
According to the board’s statement on Wednesday, a domestic electricity connection is registered in Kangana Ranaut’s name at Simsa village under the Manali Electricity Sub-Division. The board clarified that the electricity bill in question, totaling ₹90,384, pertains to two months — January and February 2025 — and not just one month, as being widely reported.
The bill issued on March 22 includes a previous outstanding amount of ₹32,287, adding to the confusion about the total. HPSEBL also highlighted that the connected load at Kangana’s residence is 94.82 kW, which is nearly 15 times higher than a regular domestic household, indicating high electricity usage.
The board further broke down past payments, revealing that:
-
For October to December 2024, a bill of ₹82,061 was generated, which was paid on January 16, 2025.
-
In December, usage of 6,000 units resulted in a bill of ₹31,367.
-
In February, consumption shot up to 9,000 units, leading to a bill of ₹58,096, including late payment charges.
Both January and February bills were finally settled on March 28, with a total of 14,000 units consumed over the two months — far exceeding average domestic usage. The board also disclosed that Kangana is receiving a state government electricity subsidy, with ₹700 being deducted from her February bill.
The Electricity Board appealed to all consumers to pay their bills on time to avoid penalties and to ensure smooth operations. The clarification comes in the wake of Kangana’s recent public statement, in which she questioned a nearly ₹1 lakh bill for a property she claims she does not reside in regularly.
