Mandi, March 21, 2025 – Mandi district police have made significant strides in their ongoing fight against drug abuse with a series of successful drug seizures. Police teams from both the Aut and Sadar Police Stations in Mandi have recovered large quantities of Charas and Heroin across three separate incidents, arresting the accused involved.
First Case: Charas Seized from Private Bus
In the first operation, the Police Station Aut team set up a blockade and conducted a search of a private bus traveling from Kullu to Mandi. During the search, 760 grams of Charas was discovered in the possession of Sukhwinder Kaur alias Roshni, a resident of village Harsavela, Tehsil Rupnagar, Punjab. Sukhwinder Kaur was traveling on the bus, and the authorities confiscated the illegal substance. Following this recovery, a case was registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Aut. The police have since initiated a thorough investigation to uncover more details about the source and intended destination of the contraband.
Second Case: Heroin Seized from Hotel Room in Nagwai
The second significant drug bust occurred based on a tip-off received by the local police. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a police team from the same Police Station Aut conducted a raid at a hotel in Nagwai. Inside a hotel room, the police recovered 3 grams of Heroin (also known as Chitta) from two individuals who were staying there. The accused, identified as Suman Kumar, a resident of Gadsa, Tehsil Bhuntar, District Kullu, and Ravi Bodh, a resident of Sada Bai, Tehsil Bhuntar, District Kullu, were arrested on the spot. The authorities have registered a case under the NDPS Act at Police Station Aut and are now working to gather further information about the supply chain and potential distributors.
Third Case: Hashish Seized from Vehicle at Blockade
In the third instance, the police team from Police Station Sadar was engaged in a blockade search when they intercepted a vehicle with the registration number HP 66A 1230. The vehicle was being driven by Jograj, son of Tedhi Singh, from Bhuntar, District Kullu. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 412 grams of Hashish. The accused, Jograj, was arrested, and a case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sadar. As with the other cases, the investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officers working to trace the origins of the illegal substance and prevent future trafficking in the region.
Tackling Drug Abuse in the Region
The recent raids and arrests are part of an ongoing effort by the Mandi Police to combat the growing issue of drug abuse, particularly in areas like Kullu, Mandi, and nearby districts, which have been identified as hotspots for drug trafficking and consumption. The police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on the illegal drug trade, warning that anyone caught involved in such activities will face strict legal action.
In all three cases, the authorities acted swiftly based on intelligence and public cooperation. The police also issued a strong appeal to citizens, encouraging them to report any suspicious activities or information regarding the drug trade in their communities. This collaborative effort is seen as crucial in curbing the spread of drugs and protecting the youth from falling prey to addiction.
Ongoing Investigations and Public Awareness
The police have assured the public that investigations are continuing into these cases, and further action will be taken against the drug traffickers involved. They have also pledged to increase efforts to raise public awareness about the dangers of drugs and the importance of reporting illegal activities to help safeguard the community.
Mandi Police have also confirmed that they will continue with the regular surveillance of known drug hotspots and implement more stringent measures to catch offenders. The public is urged to stay vigilant and cooperate with the authorities in this battle against drug abuse, which remains a significant concern in many regions of Himachal Pradesh.
As the police take these steps to protect society from the ill effects of drugs, the need for greater community involvement and proactive law enforcement has never been more apparent. Together, the police and the public aim to ensure that Mandi and surrounding areas remain safe and free from the scourge of drug abuse.
