Mandi, March 16: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur has given a sharp retort to former Congress MLA Bumber Thakur in response to the allegations made regarding firing incident in Bilaspur. Thakur further alleged that Bumber Thakur’s family was liable for a previous firing that had taken place in Bilaspur and that the current false claims being made against BJP MLA Trilok Jamwal were – an attempt to mislead the public – while addressing media in Mandi. Himachal Pradesh LoP Jairam Thakur, however, described the recent firing in Bilaspur as an indication of a gang war and not a political conspiracy.

The “family of Bumber Thakur has been associated with a past case of firing in Bilaspur. Now efforts are being made to divert attention from the real issues by targeting BJP leaders,” Jairam Thakur said. He said the recent shooting incident, which has fuelled political tensions, seems to be gang violence, not politically motivated violence. Thakur also said that these kind of charge and counter-charge does not serve the purpose and it all means that the law and order in the state is very bad.

In a statement regarding the ongoing investigation, Jairam Thakur said this is not the time to point fingers but for the authorities to “identify and net the culprits”. He had also slammed the state government for failing to resolve such cases in an effective way, which he claimed is a clear example of the state government’s failure to keep law and order in the state. “We all are waiting for authorities to catch the suspects. Only then will we know the actual reason behind this incident,” Thakur said.

The former CM used the opportunity to also hit out at the state budget to be presented the next day. Jairam Thakur said he had little faith in the government to provide constructive solutions, pointing to earlier budget pledges as “bundles of lies.” On the contrary, Himachal Pradesh people have little hope from the budget as past promises made by the government have always been fanciful only, he added.

The comment by Jairam Thakur also comes on the backdrop of the political atmosphere in the state being charged over the investigation on the firing incidents. Thakur has been speaking against the current government and demanding it to work for the people instead of playing political blame games as the Leader of Opposition. Now, the public and political circles would be awaiting what would further unfold in the firing case and also in the state budget presentation.
