It was a moment of great pride for the people of Himachal Pradesh when Pratibha’s name was declared on the grand stage of the IIFA Awards in Jaipur. Pratibha is from a small village Daroti, Rohru subdivision of Himachal Pradesh. And now a name to reckon in Indian cinema. Born in, raised in the peaceful heights of Himachal and now in the crackling competitive spaces of Bollywood, her life has been the definition of sweat and grind and the spark of her absolute love for freaking best in the industry.
Upon winning the award, the actress, who stole the show with her performance in Laapata Ladies, took to social media to share her happiness. “I’m sharing my feelings with you on Instagram, ‘Getting acceptance for something that you want from the heart is an unforgettable experience. IIFA, thanks a million from the bottom of my heart. It’s basically a dream come true for me.” In the respective images, Pratibha was seen cradling her trophy, an indication of how much happiness the journey had brought her and also how much of a dream it was, one she had a long way to go achieving.
Her acting career would take off soon after she left Chelsea School, Shimla, and followed her dreams to Mumbai. She made her television debut in 2020, on the show Kurbaan Hua, and she soon built a reputation as a versatile performer, landing roles in popular web series, including Aadha Ishq and on the highly anticipated Sanjay Leela Bhansali production Heeramandi. But it was Laapata Ladies, that really launched her to new heights in the industry.
The film, which also received attention internationally, was chosen for the 2024 Oscars but did not get to the final nomination stage. Despite its delays, it was a critical success and solidified Pratibha’s career, with critics praising her performance for its depth and nuance. This was in addition to her already securing her place as one of the most special debutants of the year with IIFA award recognition.
Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated Pratibha for her historic achievement and said, “Pratibha has made her powerful acting reach the hearts of the audience. The exuberance with which she brought out the struggle and emotions of women on screen is phenomenal.” They were the words of one who spoke not only for his family, but for the entire state — pride and exhilaration shared by all for Pratibha’s progress inspiring not just actors but also every girl across India.
