Himachal: Exam For Class 12 English Cancelled, New Date Released As March 29
Dharamshala, Mar 10: The Class 12 English exam of Himachal Pradesh School Education Board, originally scheduled to be held on March 8, has been postponed in view of the unfortunate incident. After the early opening of the question paper, the exam was cancelled and is now to be held on March 29, 2025.
It will be held between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm, at 2,300 examination centers across the state. A total of 93,494 students — regular and State Open School (SOS) — are likely to appear for the exam.
The Incident That Sparked the Cancellation
The cancelation of the exam, besides the dated questions, was also prompted by a major goof-up reported on March 7 at an examination center in Chuwari, Chamba district, where staff opened the Class 12 English question paper before the make shift date. The Board’s error has first been reported over email to the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board. Detailed confirmation was an uploaded video footage on the “Exam Mitra” mobile application which showed the question paper being opened prematurely.
Accordingly after receiving the reports, the Board promptly took stock the situation and decided to cancel it and ensure fairness and transparency among all students. The controversy of the question paper having got leaked in the early hours raised questions on the integrity of the examination process, which led to the preventive step taken by the Board.

Soon after the cancellation, the Board released a new date for the Class 12 English paper, which will now take place on March 29. All students have been informed about the new date and are requested to continue with their preparations to appear for the examination on the updated date.
Instructions had been given to further enhance security and surveillance measures in all examination centres, the education authorities had also said. Such errors will be prohibited by strict protocols to avoid a reoccurrence. This will include scrutiny of question paper handling and examination staff checks at various levels and stringent supervision during the exam itself.
