Shimla, March 10 2025: Himachal Pradesh is about to experience a big change in weather from Monday, March 10. According to the Meteorological Department, the state will be in the grip of bad weather conditions, which will be characterized by rain, thunder and snowfall of light to moderate intensity, which will remain in force till March 16. Travelers and residents are warned to prepare as the region faces more extreme weather.

Weather forecast for Monday indicated the possibility of light to moderate rain and thundering at few places over Himachal Pradesh, mainly in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur districts, said Sandeep Sharma, a scientist at the Meteorological Centre Shimla. Snowfall is also likely in high altitudes of Lahaul-Spiti and Kangra, while other places in the region will receive rain. The rain will diminish somewhat on March 11, but the wet weather will re-emerge on March 12 and likely persist through March 16, bringing additional snow and rain to parts of the state.

Another spell of rain and snow in the higher reaches will affect Kullu, Kangra, and Lahaul-Spiti, with snowfall expected. There shouldn’t be much impact on the upper and mid levels, but the rain will still fall to continue, which may disrupt daily life and travel in these places. Travelers and commuters visiting hill stations or high-altitude areas are recommended to keep an eye on road status and weather forecasts due to the risks of slippery roads as well as limited visibility.

The Meteorological Department also pointed out that currently, the temperature of Himachal Pradesh is 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal for this time. According to the records, the lowest temperature recently was 28°C, which means that a little seasonal weather shift is coming. But with rain and snow on the way, temperatures are expected to drop quite a bit in the next couple of days, especially at higher elevations.

March so far has been 44% richer in average rainfall than normal, with significant precipitation in some places. Una district is an exception, where rainfall this month has been below normal. Agriculture and infrastructure remain under close scrutiny despite the heavy levels of rainfall for many regions.

Travelers with plans to visit Himachal Pradesh, prepare for difficult conditions, especially in the mountains. The snow may result in temporary road closures, and heavy rain could result in landslides in some areas. Officials have warned that anyone traveling to higher elevations should have adequate food, warm clothing and emergency supplies.

The public is advised to stay tuned to the latest weather forecasts and advisories from the Meteorological Department as the weather is likely to remain unpredictable in the coming days. They also advised exercise caution while travelling in hilly areas during the current rainfall and snowfall.

The state government is monitoring the situation and will take necessary action if any adverse impact of weather emerges.
