CM Sukhu Targets BJP, Invites Indian Cricket Team: Congress Legislature Party Meet Ahead Of Budget Session
Congress Legislature Party meeting
Shimla, March 10, 2025: A vital Congress Legislature Party meeting under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was held on the eve of the budget session at the State Guest House Peter Hof. Addressing a media briefing in Himachal Pradesh after the meeting, CM Sukhu ruled out the possibility of any party other than the Congress forming the government in the state, maintaining that the opposition BJP is resorting to hypocrisy and mismanagement. The Chief Minister further, spoke about the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid on Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and invited the Indian cricket team including the Champions Trophy-winning captain, Rohit Sharma to Himachal Pradesh.
Talking to the Congress legislators, CM Sukhu said that there was a wide gap between the BJP’s words and actions. He said, “The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is exactly like the thief who’s scolding the police officer,” noting that the opposition party often does not practice what it preaches. “There is a yawning gap between what the BJP says and does,” claimed Sukhu, asserting that often what the party says publicly contradicts their actions.
Sukhu also reacted to the BJP’s refusal to take part in discussions, saying if the opposition party is ready to take part in debates in the House, the Congress government is willing to extend the budget session. He said that although BJP boycotted many significant meetings in the past, including that of MLA priority and all-party meeting, they made an appearance in the recent all-party meeting, adding that it was a proof of the internal battle within the party.
The Chief Minister took a hard look at the internal dynamics of the BJP, saying that nine leaders who had switched over from Congress were running the party. He claimed there are five factions in the BJP, due to which it is difficult for the party to remain unified. His comments were also an indication of the continuing disarray of the opposition party in Himachal Pradesh.
CM Sukhu did not only take a jibe against the BJP but also responded to the recent ED raid on residence of Chhattisgarh Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. The raid currently receiving a lot of attention comes as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption. Sukhu, expressing his displeasure that Baghel had been the Chief Minister for five years, said that the leader should not be harassed in this manner. Sukhu on the occasion also stated that it is unfair to use Congress leaders like this and it is time for such political vendetta against Congress leaders should come to an end.
In a more positive development, CM Sukhu invited the Indian cricket team, particularly the victorious Champions Trophy-winning team, to visit Himachal Pradesh. Sukhu congratulated the Indian team for their extraordinary accomplishment of clinching Champions Trophy without a single match lost. He extended an invitation to the whole team, including captain Rohit Sharma, to visit Himachal along with their families. Sukhu also gave a gesture that the state government would pay for their stay at any luxury hotel in the region. The trip of the cricket team was initiated by the Chief Minister as part of efforts to highlight the excellence in tourism and overall growth of the state.
All eyes will be on ongoing political developments, the government’s response to the opposition, and the legislative debates that will play out in the coming weeks as the state gears for the budget session. CM Sukhu’s statements and steps showcase the Congress government’s determination to assert its stand and interact politically and socially with the people of Himachal Pradesh.
