Mizoram Govt Says Lengpui Airport to Stay Under State Control
The NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC) has received assurances from Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma that the Lengpui Airport will continue to be governed by the state government and will not be turned over to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) representatives and other NGOCC officials met and gave this assurance. The government was urged by the NGOCC to reconsider any plans to hand over the airport to the IAF.
While acknowledging the airport’s financial challenges, Lalduhoma pledged to look for funding from the finance commission to upgrade the runway and other facilities.
The Mizo National Front (MNF) head, Zoramthanga, has previously opposed the proposal as well, declaring that his party would vehemently reject any such action.
