Hungary’s PM Eager to Act against Funded Media & Groups

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced his sequential actions against those non-governmental organisations (NGOs) & media companies who are taking financial assistance internationally. He also stated that it is the right time to finish these international networks.

Orban’s government also established a ‘Sovereignty Protection Office’ in 2023 whose main function was to investigate those government and media organisations who were having links with international sources. If anyone is found guilty, he/she can be given up to 3 years of punishment. Stating more, he labels those people as agents who work for USAID-funded organisations. He also appreciated Trump’s work of sweeping out USAID.

On the other hand, Orban’s government’s opposition has compared the Sovereignty Protection Office to a ‘foreign agent’ and accused the government of pressuring anti-government NGOs and journalists.

Orban’s government is accused of violating democratic rights. This is the reason why the EU has stopped billions of funding to the country.
