Japan Strengthens Ties with Assam for Industrial Growth

Keiichi Ono, Japan’s ambassador to India, recently paid a visit to Tata’s semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Jagiroad, Assam, demonstrating Japan’s desire to further its relationship with the Indian semiconductor sector. Opportunities to incorporate Japanese technology and knowledge into the development of the region are highlighted by the visit. 

In order to promote industrial growth, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated his intention to build a Japanese industrial town close to Guwahati. Sarma stressed Assam’s dedication to strengthening its relationship with Japan while speaking at the fifth India-Japan Intellectual Conclave. 

Ambassador Ono visited a bamboo harvesting site funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), which goes beyond semiconductors. Supporting regional farmers, enhancing the energy supply, and using resources sustainably are the main goals of this project. 

Sarma spoke with Japanese executives about possible commercial endeavors, such as the establishment of a Japanese Industrial Park in Assam, in an effort to further foster cooperation. The forthcoming ‘Advantage Assam’ investment event will place a strong emphasis on these initiatives.
