Paonta Sahib, Sourabh Jaiswal: In Sirmaur district, the number of elephants has increased in the last three years, due to which the forest department has provided many facilities in rural areas under the Tiger and Elephant Project of the Central Government.
DFO of the Forest Department Aishwarya Raj said that in the panchayats with elephant corridors, devices have been installed to drive away elephants and alert people through alarm systems so that wild elephants do not cause any damage to residential areas.
He said that Gajmitras have been deployed in areas where there is heavy movement of elephants.
He said that uniforms, bags, airguns and soundguns have also been provided to the forest department employees for security purposes.
