Dr. Shandil explained that while HMPV is a common virus first identified in 2001, it is generally not a cause for panic. The virus typically causes mild respiratory symptoms such as coughing, fever, and a runny nose. It spreads through close contact with infected individuals, making it essential for the public to take preventive measures.
The Health Minister urged citizens to stay vigilant and visit nearby health centers if they experience any symptoms related to the virus. He emphasized the importance of basic health precautions, such as wearing masks, washing hands regularly, and staying home when feeling unwell.
Dr. Shandil also reassured the public that the state’s health infrastructure is well-prepared for any health emergencies. The Health Department has sufficient medical supplies, including beds, oxygen cylinders, and other necessary equipment, to manage potential cases. Additionally, the state government will adhere to the guidelines and protocols provided by the Government of India regarding the management of HMPV.
