Hamirpur, 07 January: In a major breakthrough, Bhoranj police of Hamirpur have successfully apprehended Mandeep Singh, a murder convict serving life imprisonment, who had escaped during parole eight years ago. Singh had concocted a false story about his death and, using forged documents, managed to live under a new identity in Chandigarh for nearly a decade. The relentless efforts of the police finally led to his capture, bringing an end to his prolonged evasion of justice.

Hamirpur District Police SP, Bhagat Singh, revealed that the murder accused, Mandeep Singh, son of Vishambar Das from Ghumarwin village, had been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hamirpur court for a murder case. Singh was granted parole for the first time in 2013, during which he committed a theft in Bhoranj. In 2017, he was granted parole again, but this time, he took drastic measures to evade capture. While on parole, Mandeep Singh fabricated a false story about his death, using forged documents to declare himself deceased. He then assumed a new identity, “Sanjeev,” and lived in Chandigarh for eight years, evading law enforcement.

The PO Cell of Hamirpur Police achieved a significant breakthrough by finally arresting murder accused Mandeep Singh in Chandigarh after a prolonged eight-year search.

Acting on a tip-off, Bhoranj Police discovered that Singh had been living under a false identity in Chandigarh. The Bhoranj Police team swiftly acted and arrested Singh, bringing him back to Hamirpur. In an audacious attempt to erase his criminal past, Singh had even fabricated documents, including a fake Aadhar card, to be declared deceased in the Hamirpur Police records. This marks a first-of-its-kind case in Himachal Pradesh.

Hamirpur District Police SP Bhagat Singh confirmed that Mandeep Singh was produced in the Hamirpur court and has been remanded to police custody. The investigation is now focused on uncovering the full extent of Singh’s activities while living under his new identity in Chandigarh. As a proclaimed offender since 2017, Singh’s arrest is a major success for the Hamirpur Police, highlighting their determination in bringing criminals to justice, no matter how long it takes.
