Keylong, Jan 07: Manali to Darcha, Sumdo to Losar and Tandi to Kadu Nala roads are open for light vehicle traffic. Lahaul Spiti Deputy Commissioner  Rahul Kumar, who took stock of roads, law and order, traffic movement along with other district officials after light snowfall in the morning, gave this information.

He has also cautioned tourists and the general public of the possibility of slippery roads due to snow fall. So in order to avoid accidents, the speed should be slow and especially priority should be given to the use of four by fours or if the four by four is not available, travel with chains in the vehicle and he said that as a precaution, do not drive at night because driving at night becomes very dangerous due to black eye formation.

In case of traffic jam on the roads, do not panic and follow the instructions of the traffic police, he said. He issued that police force has been deployed for smooth traffic in Atal Tunnel, Koksar and Sissu as well, tourists and common people can approach the police in case of any help.

Giving detailed information he informed that after the snowfall in the district last week, till now, out of total 134 connecting roads of Lahaul sub-division, 90 connecting roads have been opened for the movement of light vehicles by the Public Works Department and the remaining roads are being opened on war footing.

He stated that the electricity department has made the electricity supply smooth in the entire district, all 202 transformers of Lahaul sub-division are functional despite the harsh weather. He said that in view of the sever cold, Jal Shakti Department is supplying drinking water to the general public through 192 drinking water schemes uninterrupted.

He has also appealed to the general public that electric heaters, gas heaters and tandoors should be used carefully for heat and safety should be taken care of so that accidents can be avoided.
