Solan: A woman in Solan has filed a report stating the mysterious disappearance of jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from her locker in Punjab National Bank on Mall Road. The incident has also raised serious questions about the security of bank lockers and a police investigation has been launched.

The woman told the police that she had stored her gold and silver jewellery in the locker and accessed it for the last time on June 25, 2024. All her valuables were still there at that time. But when she went to the bank on Jan. 4, 2025, to collect some items, she found the locker was unlocked and empty.

The assistant manager went with the woman during the visit, confirming that the locker was indeed open, the woman said. Discharged, she made a police report.

SP Solan Gaurav Singh said the case has been registered after a complaint was received and investigation started. “We’re looking at all angles.”

Incident has raised apprehensions among people about the security of bank lockers, seen as a safe place for keeping valuables. Police are likely to interview bank employees and examine security protocols in discovering how the breach happened.
