Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has proposed an expansion of the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) planning jurisdiction, aiming to include parts of Kasumpti, Beolia, and Mashobra. The proposed areas, which will cover approximately 25-51-33 hectares, include Upmohal Dochi (Kasumpti), Upmohal Jadech and Kawara (Beolia), and Mohal Mashobra, Lambodar, and Upmohal Tila (Mashobra).

This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve urban planning, development, and resource management in these regions. A notification issued by the Urban Development Department on December 20, 2024, invites public feedback and objections during the consultation period, in line with the Himachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act of 1994. The public participation process ensures that residents and stakeholders have a say in the proposed expansion.

To facilitate a smooth transition, the government has also introduced a three-year exemption from property taxes on land and buildings in the newly included areas. Additionally, current residents will retain their existing rights as per official records.

The expansion is expected to bring improvements in infrastructure, urban development, and resource distribution, benefiting both the new areas and Shimla as a whole. The government urges citizens to provide their feedback within the designated period to ensure that all concerns are addressed before finalizing the inclusion.
