Jairam Thakur Slams Congress Government in Himachal, Calls for CM Sukhu’s Resignation
Opposition Leader Accuses Government of Breaking Promises and Mismanagement
Shimla, January 02: Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has strongly criticized the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh, equating its administration to a comedy show. During a press conference, Thakur likened the government’s actions to the satirical TV series Ulta Pulta, created by Jaspal Bhatti, and demanded Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu resign on moral grounds and seek a fresh mandate from the public.
Thakur accused the Congress government of failing to honor its promise of providing 300 units of free electricity to consumers. He expressed disappointment over the government asking people to voluntarily give up electricity subsidies, calling it a betrayal of the public trust. “The Congress came to power on false guarantees, and now they are reversing their promises. This is a clear betrayal of the people of Himachal Pradesh,” Thakur stated.

The opposition leader also raised concerns over changes to the subsidy structure, criticizing the reduction or elimination of subsidies that were previously provided under the BJP-led government. He claimed that industries in the state are now facing heavy taxes under the Congress regime, adding to the financial burden.
Thakur further attacked the government’s decisions, including the so-called “samosa investigation” and the controversial toilet tax introduced by the Shimla Municipal Corporation. He described these actions as examples of poor governance and lack of focus, saying, “Instead of addressing the real issues, this government is making a mockery of governance.”
Referring to the Sukhu government’s two-year tenure as a failure, Thakur challenged its ability to effectively govern. “If the Chief Minister has any moral courage, he should resign and seek the public’s trust again,” he concluded.
