Former IPS Rameshwar Thakur Remembers Dr. Singh’s Leadership and Influence
Shimla, December 28: Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) Chairman and former IPS officer Rameshwar Thakur paid an emotional tribute to the late Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, recalling the five years he spent working closely with him in the Special Protection Group (SPG). Describing Dr. Singh as an exceptional leader with a unique personality, Thakur highlighted the deep respect he had for the former Prime Minister.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92, was a towering figure in Indian politics and economics, often hailed as the ‘Bhishma Pitamah’ of the country’s economic reforms. Thakur expressed his sorrow over Dr. Singh’s passing, recognizing the indelible impact he left on India and the millions of people who admired his leadership.

Thakur reflected on the privilege of working with Dr. Singh during his time in the SPG, where he served for nearly five years. He described Dr. Singh as not just a great leader but also a humble and wise individual from whom he learned every day. Thakur also fondly remembered being awarded the Police Medal by Dr. Singh during the SPG Foundation Day in April 2006, calling it one of the greatest honors of his life.

“Dr. Manmohan Singh’s humility, simplicity, and warm smile are etched in my heart. Every moment spent with him remains a cherished memory, and although he is no longer with us, his contributions to our nation will continue to inspire generations,” Thakur said.
During his tenure, Thakur was also responsible for the security of several prominent leaders, including former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao, IK Gujral, HD Deve Gowda, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His memories of working alongside Dr. Singh remain a testament to the former Prime Minister’s leadership and the profound respect he commanded from those who served him.
