Devastating Blaze Intensified by Gas Cylinder Explosion
A heartbreaking fire in Keylong, Lahaul-Spiti, on Tuesday evening resulted in the tragic death of a four-year-old child. The fire broke out around 6:40 PM in a two-storey wooden house located near the regional hospital. The child, the son of Bhim Bahadur, a laborer of Nepali origin, was sleeping inside the house when the blaze erupted. Both parents were at work at the time, unaware of the disaster unfolding at home.
The situation worsened when a gas cylinder exploded amid the flames, significantly intensifying the fire and causing the house to collapse completely. Emergency teams, including firefighters, police, home guards, and local residents, arrived quickly at the scene. Despite their efforts, it took over 90 minutes to bring the fire under control, by which time the wooden structure had been entirely destroyed.
Tehsildar of Keylong, Ramesh Kumar, reported that the building, which had four rooms, was rented by the Bahadur family. The fire caused an estimated loss of more than ₹10 lakh. Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana visited the site to offer condolences to the grieving family, as the community mourns the loss of the young life in this devastating incident.
