HRTC Reports Revenue Boost and Green Transformation Initiatives
Commitment to Sustainability and Improved Services
Shimla – The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has witnessed a significant revenue increase of ₹63.47 crore in the first eight months of this year, a result of both the state government’s strategic initiatives and the dedication of HRTC’s employees. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made this announcement during a review meeting in Shimla, underscoring the corporation’s vital role in the state’s transportation network.
Recognizing HRTC as the lifeline of Himachal Pradesh, the Chief Minister highlighted that approximately 5 lakh commuters rely on its services daily, particularly in remote areas with limited transportation options. Over the past two years, the government has been providing a monthly grant of ₹60 crore to ensure the smooth operation of services, including the timely payment of salaries and pensions to employees.
As part of its goal to transition into a Green Energy State by March 31, 2026, HRTC is undergoing a major transformation. A substantial ₹327 crore has been allocated to replace diesel buses with electric ones, aligning with the state’s environmental goals and promoting sustainability. Chief Minister Sukhu stressed that the shift to a “Green HRTC” would play a crucial role in protecting the state’s environment for future generations.
In a further push towards modernization, HRTC has introduced a cashless payment system on its buses, becoming the first transport corporation in India to do so. The government is also focusing on improving infrastructure by planning the construction of new bus stands to enhance commuter convenience.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri praised the improved services, noting that HRTC buses have become symbols of comfort and reliability due to the hard work and commitment of its employees. The state government remains dedicated to strengthening HRTC, ensuring it remains both financially sustainable and environmentally responsible.
