Nauni, December 16: The annual sale of fruit saplings for horticulturists has begun at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, as well as at its Krishi Vigyan Kendras and research stations across the state. The sale, organized on a first-come, first-serve basis, saw a large turnout of farmers from Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states looking to purchase fruit saplings.

On the first day of the sale, a total of 537 farmers purchased 16,173 saplings of various fruit varieties, including apple, pear, apricot, peach, cherry, kiwifruit, walnut, pomegranate, plum, and Japanese fruit. The saplings were made available through the university’s three nurseries at the Nauni campus, including those of the Department of Fruit Science, Model Farm, and Seed Science. Additional stations at Krishi Vigyan Kendra locations in Kandaghat, Rohru, and the university’s research centres at Mashobra and Sharbo (Kinnaur) also participated in the sale.

Moreover, the Regional Horticultural Research and Training Station at Bajaura in Kullu district had already started its sale on December 9. By the end of the day, 292 farmers had bought 11,512 plants of various fruit varieties from this station. In total, the university has sold 27,685 saplings to 829 farmers across different locations so far.

This year, the university has made over 2 lakh plants available for sale, catering to the growing demand from the horticulture community. The sale will continue in the coming days, with farmers encouraged to visit the university and regional centres to purchase their desired fruit saplings.
