Himachal Pradesh Sets New Benchmark with 41 EV Charging Stations Across Green Corridors
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh – In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability and green energy, the Himachal Pradesh government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with three leading companies to develop 41 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across key green corridors within the state. This ambitious project is set to reshape the state’s transport infrastructure, marking Himachal’s commitment to becoming a Green Energy State by 2026.
The signing ceremony, officiated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is part of the state’s larger initiative to promote clean energy and sustainable transportation. The charging stations will be strategically placed along five major green corridors, ensuring that electric vehicles (EVs) have convenient access to charging facilities across the state.
Key Partnerships for EV Infrastructure Expansion
The MoU was signed by D.C. Negi, Director of the Transport Department, on behalf of the Himachal Pradesh government, with Rahul Soni of EVI Technology and Avinash Sharma of Jio-BP representing their respective companies. Under the agreement, Jio-BP will be responsible for developing EV infrastructure along the Mandi-Jogindernagar-Pathankot and Kiratpur-Manali-Kelang corridors, while EVI Technology will focus on the Parwanoo-Una-Sansarpur Terrace-Nurpur and Parwanoo-Shimla-Recongpeo-Losar routes. Electroweb Company will handle the Shimla-Hamirpur-Chamba corridor.
These corridors will not only feature state-of-the-art EV charging stations but will also include restrooms, restaurants, supermarkets, and other traveler amenities, significantly improving the travel experience for both tourists and locals.
Pioneering a Sustainable Future for Himachal Pradesh
This development marks a monumental step towards reducing the state’s carbon footprint, with a focus on enhancing the adoption of electric vehicles. As part of this initiative, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized the importance of transitioning the state to clean energy, saying, “Himachal Pradesh is paving the way for sustainable transportation, and this infrastructure will play a key role in our goal of becoming a Green Energy State by 2026.”
The annual lease for the companies involved is set at ₹75 lakh, a move that ensures the state will benefit from both infrastructure development and long-term revenue. This also positions Himachal Pradesh as a model for other states, showcasing the state’s leadership in the electric vehicle transition.
Himachal’s Green Vision: A Fleet of Electric Buses
To further strengthen this green initiative, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri announced plans to procure 350 electric buses for the Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation (HRTC), transitioning its entire fleet to electric vehicles in phases. Agnihotri stated, “Himachal Pradesh is the first state in India to operate an entirely electric vehicle fleet in its Transport Department.” This move is expected to set a precedent for the country, promoting EV adoption and contributing to the state’s environmental goals.
These green corridors and the transition to electric buses will not only reduce carbon emissions but will also encourage private vehicle owners to make the shift towards electric mobility. The combination of EV charging infrastructure and state-operated electric buses is set to revolutionize Himachal’s transport system, providing a sustainable future for generations to come.
This strategic initiative solidifies Himachal Pradesh’s position at the forefront of the country’s electric vehicle revolution, turning the state into a green transport hub while promoting clean energy practices across the nation.
