The BJP has accused former Congress president Sonia Gandhi of having ties with an organization allegedly funded by the George Soros Foundation, claiming that this entity has supported the idea of Kashmir as an independent state. The allegations, shared in a series of posts on X, have sparked a political uproar, with the BJP arguing that these associations reflect the influence of foreign entities on India’s internal affairs.
The ruling party claimed that Sonia Gandhi served as the co-president of the Forum of Democratic Leaders in Asia-Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation, which it alleges has expressed views treating Kashmir as a separate entity. The BJP also connected the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, under Sonia Gandhi’s chairmanship, to partnerships with the George Soros Foundation, suggesting foreign funding influenced Indian organizations.
Further amplifying its stance, the BJP accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi of leveraging reports from the George Soros-funded Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) to criticize the Modi government and industrialist Gautam Adani. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey vowed to pose questions to Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha regarding these alleged connections, while also accusing the opposition of colluding with foreign entities to destabilize India’s economy and defame the government.
The allegations follow the BJP’s earlier claims that the U.S. “deep state” collaborated with OCCRP and Rahul Gandhi to harm India’s reputation globally. The party also pointed out Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s public acknowledgment of George Soros as a “friend,” labeling it as further evidence of questionable ties.
The accusations triggered heated exchanges in Parliament, disrupting proceedings. Rajya Sabha was adjourned multiple times as BJP leaders demanded immediate discussions on Sonia Gandhi’s alleged links to the Soros-funded organization. Lok Sabha proceedings also witnessed interruptions, with only sporadic moments of normal functioning since November 25.
The Congress has yet to respond to these latest allegations.
