Shimla – The Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board has relaunched its e-KYC process for electricity meters across Shimla district, covering the city and surrounding areas. With the deadline fast approaching on December 31, residents are urged to complete the process as soon as possible to avoid losing access to government benefits and concessions tied to their electricity usage.

A Door-to-Door Drive to Ensure Accessibility

To make the e-KYC process as accessible as possible, electricity board employees will visit homes across Shimla to assist with the procedure. For added convenience, consumers also have the option to visit their nearest electricity sub-division office to complete the verification themselves. The board has emphasized that cooperation from the public is essential to ensure the e-KYC is completed on time and without issues.

Why e-KYC Matters: Linking Aadhaar and Mobile Numbers

The primary aim of the e-KYC initiative is to link consumers’ electricity meter numbers with their Aadhaar numbers and mobile phone numbers. This linkage will modernize and simplify the billing process and ensure that any applicable government subsidies are transferred directly to eligible consumers without any delays or complications. Assistant Engineer Yogesh Kumar, from the Jatog Electricity Sub-Division, stressed the importance of completing the e-KYC in time to avoid disruptions in services, including the loss of subsidies and other essential benefits.

Documents You Need to Complete Your E-KYC

To successfully complete the e-KYC process, residents will need to provide the following documents:

  • Aadhaar card
  • Ration card
  • A recent electricity bill

Additionally, the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card is crucial, as it will be used to send a One-Time Password (OTP) for verification.

A Call for Proactive Participation

The Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board has appealed to all residents to proactively engage with the process to ensure they continue to receive subsidies and maintain uninterrupted services. Failure to complete the e-KYC may result in consumers being ineligible for subsidies and other benefits associated with their electricity meters.

Digitizing Electricity Services for a Modern Future

This initiative is part of the board’s broader efforts to digitize and modernize electricity services. It aims to enhance operational transparency and increase efficiency in managing the state’s electricity resources. The e-KYC process will not only streamline operations but also bring much-needed digital reforms to the utility sector, benefiting both consumers and service providers alike.

Don’t Wait – Beat the Deadline

Officials urge consumers to avoid the rush as the December 31 deadline nears. The final days are expected to see a surge in e-KYC registrations, and those who delay may face long waiting times or the risk of missing out on crucial government benefits. Acting early will help ensure smooth processing and avoid any last-minute inconvenience.

Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board has set the stage for a more efficient and transparent electricity billing system. Residents are encouraged to complete their e-KYC before the December 31 deadline to ensure continued access to benefits and uninterrupted service.
