K. Sanjay Murthy, 1989 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, sworn in as Comptroller and Auditor General of India by President Draupadi Murmu
Shimla, November 21: There is often lobbying and discussions among IAS officers regarding the post of Chief Secretary in Himachal Pradesh. Many names come up among the contenders for the top post, but the name of 1989 batch IAS officer K. Sanjay Murthy is rarely heard. Despite this, on the basis of his qualification and experience, he has secured the top post of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
1989 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre K. Sanjay Murthy was sworn in as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) by President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday.
Murthy’s expertise will play an important role in strengthening the framework of financial administration, fiscal federalism and good governance.
A native of Andhra Pradesh and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering degree holder, Murthy held several important positions in his long administrative career, including that of Higher Education Secretary in the Ministry of Education.
His expertise in financial administration and good governance brought him to this prestigious position. However, he never got a chance to become the Chief Secretary in Himachal Pradesh. Currently, Himachal’s Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, who is Murthy’s junior, is holding this post.
K. Sanjay Murthy becoming CAG is a matter of pride for Himachal Pradesh and it proves that the officers here can perform excellently even at the national level.
This is a message to the state government that such capable officers should be given opportunities at top positions in the state itself, so that they can contribute to the betterment of Himachal.
His appointment is not only a recognition of his hard work, but also a source of inspiration for other officers.
