Himachal Weather: Yellow alert for dense fog in Bilaspur and Mandi; rain and snowfall expected in Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba from 23rd to 25th November
Shimla, November 21: Dry cold has become deadly in Himachal Pradesh. People are shivering from cold from mountains to plains. One person died due to severe cold in the capital Shimla. A 60-year-old man was found dead in Mungar village of Mashobra under Dhali police station here.
According to the local people, he was roaming here for the last few days and was sleeping in the open with a blanket. In such a situation, it is being speculated that he died due to cold at night.
This is the first death in Shimla due to cold this season. The Dhali police have taken the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem. The deceased has not been identified.
The state has been witnessing the wrath of cold for the last several days. The night temperature is being recorded below normal in all the districts.
The temperature has gone into minus in tribal areas, while in many cities it is being recorded around zero.
Due to the dry cold caused by the lack of rain for a long time, people are falling prey to viral and cold. Mild sunshine has also appeared in Shimla and other districts on Thursday, which is giving relief to people from cold. Meanwhile, the weather is expected to change in the next 48 hours and snowfall can be seen in high altitude areas.
The Meteorological Department has predicted snowfall in four districts of the state. In its latest forecast released on Thursday, the department has predicted rain and snowfall in Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kangra and Chamba districts.
According to the department, snowfall may occur in the upper areas of these districts on November 23 due to the effect of fresh western disturbance. This will lead to a drop in the minimum temperature in the state and the outbreak of cold will increase.
The department has predicted dry weather in the entire state from November 24 to 27. The weather will also remain clear on November 22.
On 23, 24 and 25 November, a yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in the morning and evening in Bilaspur and Mandi. In view of this, drivers have been instructed to drive carefully.
Lahaul-Spiti is the coldest, Sissu lake has frozen
The tribal areas of the state are in the grip of severe cold. Lahaul-Spiti district is the coldest. The mercury of three cities here remains below zero. On Thursday, the minimum temperature in Tabo, Keylong and Samdho was recorded as -7.5 degrees, -1.2 degrees and -1.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
The water of many ponds and waterfalls in Lahaul-Spiti has frozen. The water of the upper surface of the Sissu river has also frozen. Similarly, Bhrigu Lake and Neelkanth Lake have also started freezing. For the last fortnight, the minimum temperature in various parts of Lahaul-Spiti has been running below zero.
According to the Meteorological Department report, the average minimum temperature of the state is one degree below normal. On Thursday, the minimum temperature in Shimla was 7.8 degrees, in Sundernagar 5.3 degrees, in Bhuntar 3.1 degrees, in Kalpa 0.8 degrees, in Dharamshala 8.9 degrees, in Una 4.7 degrees, in Palampur and Solan 5.5 degrees, in Manali 2.6 degrees, in Kangra 6.7 degrees, in Mandi 6.4 degrees, in Hamirpur 6.6 degrees, in Chamba 6.8 degrees, in Kufri 6 degrees, in Bilaspur 7.7 degrees, in Jubbarhatti 8.6 degrees, in Dalhousie 7.4 degrees, in Narkanda 3.8 degrees, in Seobagh 3.2 degrees and in Reckong Peo 3.5 degrees Celsius.
