Snowfall starts every year at the end of November in Mata Shikari Devi, situated at an altitude of 11 thousand feet in Mandi district. This process of snowfall continues for the next 3-4 months. Several feet of snow falls here. After the weather opens, there is a possibility of opening the doors of Mata Shikari Devi temple in the end of March or the first week of April.

This temple is still without a roof, snow never stays at the place of idols

This temple of the goddess situated on the hills of Shikari peak is still without a roof. It is said that this temple was built by the Pandavas. According to the belief, Markandeya Rishi had performed penance at this place for many years. Pleased with his penance, Maa Durga established herself at this place in her Shakti form. Later, the Pandavas also performed penance at this place during their exile.

Pleased with the penance of the Pandavas, Maa Durga appeared and blessed the Pandavas with victory in the war. At the same time, the Pandavas got the temple built but for some reason the construction of this temple could not be completed and the Pandavas left after installing the stone idol of the mother here. Every year several feet of snow falls here in winter, but the snow never stays at the place of the idols, which is no less than a miracle. Even after many attempts over the years, the roof of this mysterious temple could not be built. It is not that no attempt was made to build a roof here. Many times the roof was also built here but it could not last. Shikari Mata likes to stay under the open sky at the place.
