Vinod Thakur of Himachal became the coach of the Indian Korfball team for the fourth time, will lead the country in Hong Kong
Hamirpur, October 23: The All India Korfball Federation has appointed Vinod Thakur of Himachal Pradesh as the coach of the Indian Korfball team for the fourth time. He will lead the Indian team in the Asia Korfball Championship Competition to be held in Hong Kong (China) from 4 to 10 November.
Vinod Thakur is currently working as a supervisor in the Rakhoh Circle of Sarkaghat subdivision of Mandi district in the State Women and Child Development Department. He started playing korfball in the year 2001 and has set many records in this game in the last 24 years. Due to this, the name of Himachal Pradesh has been illuminated at the national and international level.
Born in Laka village of Sarkaghat, Vinod Thakur has played in the national team of Himachal Pradesh eight times and has been the captain of the team thrice. He has also represented Himachal Pradesh eight times in the Federation Cup and has been the captain of the team five times. Apart from this, he trained the junior team of the state as a coach five times. Due to which the team scored a hat-trick by winning the gold medal three times in a row from 2012 to 2014.
Vinod Thakur passed the international level Level-One Coaching Course in Jaipur in 2009 and completed the Referee Level-Two Course in Rohtak in 2011. Since then he has been regularly playing the role of referee in national sub-junior, junior and senior competitions. In 2022, he did a course from Jalandhar to become an international level-two coach and also successfully completed the level-three course in 2023.
The Indian team has performed brilliantly in the past under the leadership of Vinod Thakur. He has twice coached the Indian team in the Thailand Beach World Cup, Malaysia Under-21 competition, and will now lead the team in the Asia Korfball Championship to be held in Hong Kong.
Himachal Pradesh Korfball Association General Secretary B.R. Suman and other officials have congratulated Vinod Thakur on becoming the coach of the Indian team and called it a matter of pride for Himachal Pradesh.
