The cold wave continues to hit Himachal Pradesh, causing a sharp drop in temperatures. This has affected both the hilly areas and the plains. Despite clear skies and sunshine, the maximum temperature on Monday dropped by three degrees Celsius compared to the previous days, marking the onset of cold.
The state capital Shimla also experienced cold wave conditions along with sunshine, especially during the morning and evening hours. The cold wave is the most prevalent in the high altitude areas. The minimum temperature on Sunday night was 1.9 degrees Celsius in Kukumseri and 3 degrees Celsius in Keylong. Cold wave continues to grip other hilly areas as well. Kalpa recorded a temperature of 5.4 degrees Celsius and Manali 7.9 degrees Celsius.
The plains also did not see a drop in temperature, although they remained relatively warm. Una on Monday recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius, down from last week’s high of 35-36 degrees Celsius. Nahan, Palampur and Dharamsala also recorded below normal temperatures, with minimum temperatures ranging from 11.2 degrees Celsius in Palampur to 17.8 degrees Celsius in Nahan.
Himachal Pradesh has witnessed a 95% reduction in rainfall between October 1 and 14, leading to cold. The state meteorological department has forecast clear weather to continue till October 20, though residents are already feeling the impact of the drop in temperature as winter begins to make its presence felt.
With temperatures expected to remain low, residents are preparing for even more cold in the coming days, especially in the higher altitudes. The sudden change in weather pattern is a reminder of the changing weather, with cold wave already clearly visible across the state.
